Case: Durand Cup: Serving Perfect Meals on Time (IIMR-C32-01/2026)

Abstract

On Friday, August 12, 2022, the officials released the theme song of the Durand Cup. The entire Durand Cup organizing committee was excited, except Veer Singh. He was worried about his presentation to his boss, scheduled for the following day. He would present the plan to offer timely meals to all Durand Cup players, team support staff, and organizers. The plan must have checks and balances to ensure incident-free organizing ability. Veer knew that the Durand Cup was only four days for a kick-start, and teams were about to arrive at the venues. Though plans existed in the Food and Beverages department, they needed to be more scientific and time-tested. Veer needed to understand each activity, from the procurement of raw materials to the final delivery at the dining table. He needed to have an appropriate understanding of the time required for each activity and its criticality. Finally, the plan must tell the time available to deliver the food on time should some activity get delayed. Veer had an MBA in Sports Management with Operations as his specialization. He knew he would require all his knowledge to make the plan. His career in the sports industry depended upon this plan and its proper execution. He had to look multiple times at his presentation for potential sources of error.
